Life expectancy is an important indicator of economic development and social well-being. Russia lags behind economically developed countries due to the fall in the birth rate, increased mortality and natural population loss. There is also a high differentiation of climatic and socio-economic living conditions in Russia, which is the source of differences in life expectancy across the regions of the Russian Federation. The purpose of this work is to determine the most significant factors that affect the formation of life expectancy in the regions of the Russian Federation. The object of the study is life expectancy in the regions of the Russian Federation for 1995-2018. The factors affecting the formation of life expectancy in the regions of the Russian Federation in 1995-2018 are the subject of this study. In this study a regression model on panel data with a spatial lag was built. We also analyzed long-term relationships between life expectancy and living conditions in Russian regions based on co-integration models. The regions were divided into several clusters using the k-means method. All the models are adequate and suitable for further analysis. This work is of the great interest to researchers, media, and government officials, as it allows us to determine the level of life expectancy in a particular region. This helps to take appropriate measures to prevent falling living standards and ensure decent living in the regions of the Russian Federation.
