This paper presents an economic analysis of the oil industry in Russia: volumes and revenues from oil exports, the level of development of oil refining, and the main problems of this industry. As a result of the study, it was revealed that one of the problems of the oil refining complex in Russia is the lack of investment in refining. Therefore, we faced the question: how profitable is it to invest in the oil industry, in particular, one of the largest oil companies Gazprom Neft. As part of our study, we decided to find out using machine learning methods. The first part of the study will analyze the oil industry market in Russia, the second part of the work will analyze the prices of Gazprom Neft shares and will prove or refute the hypothesis about the possibility of forecasting stock prices. An accurate forecast of the direction of the stock price may encourage investors to invest in the company.
