Despite the fact that economic sanctions are widely applied in international trade relations, their effectiveness is ambiguous and questioned. One of the most high-profile cases of sanctions restrictions over the past few years was the introduction by Russia in 2014 of a food embargo against the European Union. Such trade restrictions on the part of the Russian Federation have led to significant losses for individual EU member States. This paper analyzes the case of Italy and France as one of the potentially most sensitive countries to Russian sanctions restrictions.
