The purpose of this research work is to identify the role of visual violence in Soviet cinema of the Perestroika era. The degree of scientific development is average. There are few fundamental works on the history of Soviet cinema; in modern scientific space, they are often limited to small essays. Often the emphasis is placed solely on the description of events that happened during the Perestroika, little was written about the specifics of the cinema language of that period. The topic of visual violence is also still considered poorly understood, the scientific community has recently opened this specific branch of the general issue of violence. The work will include a narratological analysis of films of the empirical base. Expected result: the study is supposed to confirm the author’s hypothesis that visual violence was the main narrative tool used by Soviet filmmakers during the Perestroika period. This research work consists of three chapters. The first chapter describes the historical context and the process of transformation of Soviet cinema from the time of Perestroika. The second chapter is devoted to the role of violence in the media, the representation of violence in art, and the description of types and tools of visual violence. The third chapter provides a narratological analysis of films included in the empirical base.
