The directions of the influence of historical, cultural and economic features of different parts of the country on the spread of Islam in the local multi-ethnic community are shown. The second chapter analyzes the changes in the position of political Islam in Indonesia’s public space over the past two decades. A study of the program documents of the secular and Islamic political parties of the country on the issue of transforming attitudes towards Islam and its place in the country's socio-political system was carried out.
