Student: Selivanova Ekaterina

Final Grade: 7

Year of Graduation: 2020

Multilingualism appears to be one of the most effective literary devices used for transmitting and at the same time translating foreign cultures or history. Literally everything can be transmitted through or represented by multilingual inclusions: ideologies, philosophies, national identity, traditions, and, more importantly, as the “Rob Roy” novel shows, those inclusions may assume the role of demonstrating an entire historic period. In our contemporary world all of the cultural differences are getting less noticeable and more subtle, the countries transform form unique and special into universal. During this time, it is important to understand how information, hidden by the author under a false name of multilingualism, can be decoded and interpreted. Therefore, this work aims at isolating and decoding of multilingualism in “Rob Roy”.
