"Politics of Fear": Critical Discourse Analysis of Representatiotns of the Russian Interference in BREXIT in British Online Mass Media The Guardian and Mail Online (2014-2020)

This graduation thesis presents a study of discursive strategies, that help to construct modern discourse “politics of fear” towards Russia, in particular its interference in BREXIT. Discusses the theory of the European identity construction, its coexistence with national identity and reasons behind euroscepticism. The phenomenon of BREXIT is investigated: causes and the path to success. Great attention is paid to the historical tradition of representation of Russia in British media. The given thesis presents the analysis of theory of construction the discourse “politics of fear”, that creates an enabling environment for the legitimation of a common identity of the European Union, and the role of media in this process.
