In the modern world the population is aging rapidly in many countries that leads to a lot of problems and one of them is poverty in retirement age. It is possible that due to an increase in the proportion of older people, the state will not be able to provide old-aged people with a generous pension in the future. In this case, own dwelling might be a source of protection against poverty in retirement age. This study analyzes the relationship between home-ownership and retirement using fixed effects model on data for OECD countries in period between 1980 and 2017. Indeed, it was observed that there is an inverse link between a home-ownership rate and a pension. Households probably tend to buy own dwelling to guarantee a place to live or to have an opportunity to sale dwelling or to rent a room in the retirement age.
