In this paper, various methods of multilinear analysis of images of a human face based on tensor decompositions will be investigated. The use of multilinear image analysis is motivated by the fact that the image is the result of a combination of several factors: age, lighting conditions, postures, etc. Although we would be more interested in knowledge about these basic factors, we can only observe the result (i.e. pixels). Multilinear algebra, or higher-order tensor algebra, offers a powerful mathematical basis for analyzing the multi-factorial structure of images and using their "hidden variables" to solve face recognition problems.
