Vladimir and Suzdal Chronicles of the 12 — Beginning of the 13th Centuries: A Study in Textual Criticism

Nowadays it is quite difficult to imagine a person unfamiliar with the Russian Chronicles. The Chronicles contain information which has become basic for both mass historical knowledge and scholarly studies. Nevertheless, the process of creating a chronicle, the abilities and intentions of its writer, an importance of understanding its structure are largely being neglected by the general public. Vladimir and Suzdal Chronicles are not an exception. Studying Chronicles requires precise understanding of where, when, and by whom a chronicle was created. The present research aims to determine the stages of creating the text of the Vladimir and Suzdal Chronicle in 12 th – the beginning of the 13 th centuries.
