The research for the master's thesis is carried out at Calcar, a company based in the North of the Republic of Moldova with 70 employees. This company is engaged in the development of deposits of non-metallic construction materials. Globalization has led to a sharp increase in competition in almost all markets. Changes occur quickly and constantly, and therefore companies today face challenges from both the external and internal environment. In this fast-changing world, companies that want to survive and thrive in the long term need effective strategies to be able to manage continuous change. Technology, global competition, and the ordering of organizational structures affect modern business on a global scale. In addition, businesses are also facing an unprecedented pace of change due to an increasing number of requests and demands from shareholders, customers, suppliers, external market infrastructure and government regulatory agencies. However, when planning and implementing strategic changes, it is necessary to pay special attention to the specifics of the industry and the company's work in it. The theoretical significance of the research is that the research of this work can be used in further research of the economic and social phenomenon of mining companies in the context of strategic change management. It should also be noted that only a small number of research publications are devoted to the problems of strategic changes in the mining industry. Scientific publications of an economic nature that are devoted to the study of the macroeconomic environment in which companies operate in this industry exist in sufficient numbers, but very few researchers approach the study of the activities of these companies from the point of view of management and strategic management. The practical significance of the work is supported by recent statistical data on the industry in question in the Republic of Moldova (including for 2018-2019), primary information from representatives of AO 'Calcar'. Within the framework of the master's thesis, a systematization of mining industry trends was carried out, an interview was conducted with a representative of the center for political analysis in the Republic of Moldova, and the risks that mining companies may face in the future when carrying out regular activities and determining strategic development prospects were identified. At the same time, part of the analysis performed on the pages of work for JSC ‘Calcar’ can also be useful to other mining companies that are comparable to the company under study in terms of the nature and scale of activity. The Board of Directors and General Director of Calcar JSC can use the results of this work (and in particular the algorithm proposed by the author for assessing the need for strategic changes, developing strategic alternatives and choosing the optimal option for implementation) as a basic starting point for developing a full-fledged scenario for implementing a strategic change; a detailed assessment of the quantitative and qualitative effects of it; forecasting possible risks and measures to counter them in the process of implementing a strategic change.
