The main aim of this paper is to study the influence of the social, economic characteristics of respondents, as well as the size of the town on their views, values and opinions using the following databases: WVS, ESS . The work focuses on the disparity of villages, small, medium and large cities in terms of value portrait. A study of domestic and foreign literature on this topic shows that the socio-economic characteristics of people have a direct impact on the formation of a value portrait. The econometric approach used in this work makes it possible to understand that individual characteristics of people such as gender, age, education, marital status and income influence attitudes and values. The work shows that there are differences in the value portraits of people at the level of federal districts and the size of the settlement, that is, the region of the country or the size of the respondent’s city is one of the criteria by which one can assume a person’s attitude to a particular issue concerning culture, values and views. In addition, in the work, it was found that inside cities people's opinions on issues of values differ more and this difference is more significant than the difference in views between cities of different sizes. An analysis of the results of surveys of Russian society based on the WVS database from 1990 to 2011 led to the conclusion that Russia, on the one hand, is a secular state in which an “atomized” society with secular-rational values lives, but, on the other hand, self-survival values prevail, low level of trust.
