I. Strashun as the Organizer of Soviet Public Health

The major objective of the master's thesis is the reconstruction of Ilya Strashun’s scientific biography. He was a historian of medicine, PhD in medical sciences and one of the founders of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. The dissertation’s sources were related to three main areas of his activity - organization of the medical education in Moscow, creation of a public health education system and research field’s design of the scientific discipline “history of medicine”. In the key to these areas he wrote scientific articles and research papers, published educational brochures and collections of articles. All these areas of his professional work are closely connected to the development’s stages of the healthcare system in the Soviet Union in the early period. Through the prism of the biographical approach and the sociology of innovation the work analyzes the social history of early Soviet medicine. The author shows that Strashun realized his innovative ideas based on foreign experience, pre-revolutionary practices and a unique Soviet view. Keywords: social history of medicine, I.
