This work is a quantitative study based on the material of issues of the linguistic journal "Topics in the Study of Language" from 1976 to 2000. It is primarily aimed at tracing the process of transition from structuralism to functionalism based on quantitative data and various points of view of linguists whose articles are published in the journal. The research involves both obtaining quantitative data and then analyzing it using statistical analysis and visualization methods, as well as working directly with the text to confirm assumptions and conclusions based on the results of work at the stage of numerical data processing. On the basis of findings in the conclusion are outlined the main results obtained in the research process and draw conclusions about the status and features of the transition in the selected time interval.
