In the XIX century Julia Zhadovskaya was known mainly for her poetry: some of her works were included in school anthologies and poetry collections, several lyric poems were set to music and became famous romances. However, the poetess was never included in the literary or school canon and after her death, her poetry was gradually displaced from the history of literature. This study attempts to determine the place of Zhadovskaya's poems in the literary field of the XIX -early XX centuries through the analysis of critical, school literature and the poems themselves. The examination of these texts also reveals the reasons for not including Zhadovskaya's poetry in the literary canon, although in the XIX century were the prerequisites for its canonization.
