The work is devoted to the study of factors of involvement in rational and irrational charity. The relevance and motivation of the study is that this division of charitable work was not previously considered in scientific works, but only appeared in the discourse of representatives of the social sphere, who since the beginning of the 21 century are actively engaged in educational activities with the aim of developing rational charity. Most of the works on charity focus only on the socio-demographic characteristics of donors and objects of donation, which is a barrier to developing more competent strategies to attract people to rational charity. This study, based on a review of the literature and articles of charitable foundations, describes rational and irrational charity and develops a methodology for calculating human involvement in each type of charity. On the basis of judgements on the principles of the work of rational charity, an index of consent is built for each respondent, which also makes it possible to understand which judgements cause the greatest and least consent. By means of variance and regression analysis, it is determined which socio-demographic and personal characteristics will be factors of involvement in rational and irrational charity. The result shows that the factors of the two types of engagement differ.
