This study contributes to the knowledge of home routines automation for enhancing the level of security, efficient energy use and increasing the comfort of living in a smart home. The work consists of literature review, analysis for the alternatives on the market with outlining their pros and cons in the context of creating home automation scenarios, employed methods to meet the outlined objectives and detailed review of some development technologies. The suggested method of creating a smart home scenario is the combination of two most popular approaches – making use of the user interface for creating programmable scenarios utilizing the trigger-action programming concept which is known to be self-explanatory in terms of a majority of home automation rules. The risk of lacking programming skills is suggested to be mitigated with interactive user interfaces and visualizing the process of creating a home automation rule with the script graph. There is every hope that a scenario overview in the form of a script graph, that will be presented to users during the script construction, will transmit more information about the home automation rules compared to the programming code. Additionally, the problem of evolving diversity of smart devices is suggested to be resolved with the plug-in architecture of the system.
