This research provides methodological and theoretical basis to longitudinal social network analysis of careers in individual sports (tennis case). Theoretical model is suggested that combines psychological characteristics of a player and his/her embeddedness into network of matches. A methodology of applying stochastic actor-oriented model (SIENA) to analysis of match network evolution is elaborated. From applied perspective tennis players' careers are scrutinized and psychological traits crucial for success of a player in combination with opponents characteristics are analyzed.
