The Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich (Romanov) is one of the brightest representor of the Russian emigration. However, his work as a writer still remains undervalued and unexplored. The ultimate goal of the present study is twofold: it attempts to analyze the book of Memoirs and «Twilight of Royalty» and to look at the features of his personality through the prism of his texts. The research consists of two parts: the study of the history of the creation and publication of texts, on the basis of which the specificity of self-fashionnig is revealed, and the analysis of key images, episodes, details, and motives that contributed to the construction of the "I" and the determination of identity. In the course of the research, it was found that the author constructs the image of his" I " depending on the intended audience. Trying to find his identity, the author forms the " I " step by step, based on the description of events in his life, embedded in the historical frame of the story.
