The present paper is devoted to the development of headline generation algorithm for news selections. The research is partly focused on determining the essence of the title, its functional and structural specifics in print media and web news. The characteristics discovered are also confirmed in the course of statistical analysis of the news corpus. The creation of news collections corpora is also described; both are used for algorithm training and testing. The created generation method is a hybrid algorithm that combines the extraction of informative sentences from a selection based on keywords, thematic expressions, and the Sequence-to-Sequence architecture. The results obtained were evaluated with ROUGE and classified in terms of language violations.
