ANNOTATION The master's thesis explores the right to freedom of conscience and the peculiarities of its formation in Russia at the turn of the XIX - XX centuries. The paper examines the influence of the Institute of freedom of conscience on the regulation of state-Church relations. The author also examines the issue of expanding religious rights and freedoms at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, including the role and significance of the Institute of freedom of conscience in terms of the doctrine of the Russian Orthodox Church, its theological understanding in modern times. The dissertation can be used in law-making activities, including to justify the need to prevent possible negative consequences for society as a result of abuse of the right to freedom of conscience and involvement of citizens in the activities of extremist and destructive religious groups.
