Genesis of the Genre of Young Adult Dystopian Novels in the USA Literature (as Exemplified by J. Dashner, S. Collins, V. Roth)

Due to cultural, political and social trends of the 20th and 21st centuries the genre of dystopia undergoes changes and gains popularity among the readers all over the world. In American literature the notion “young adult dystopian literature” that includes fiction appears. The purpose of this research is to examine the transformation of the canonical dystopia, reveal functions and characteristics of “YA dystopian literature” as exemplified by the novels The Hunger Games (2008) by S. Collins, The Maze Runner by J. Dashner (2009) and The Divergent (2011) by V. Roth. It is supposed that in this study main reasons for changes in canonical genre will be revealed and the characteristics which were subjects to change will be observed. Besides, the features of other genres (different types of cliché of popular literature, Mythological subtext and Christian implications) noticed in the novels under study.
