This research is based on the paper by Grabowski and Vernon (1992) and analyses the effect of ‘generic paradox’ on the Russian pharmaceutical market. The main aim of this paper is to show the effect of the generic entry on the pioneer drugs prices that lost their patent protection during the period from 2012 to 2019. The data from DSM Group on the volume of sales in rubles and units was used to estimate the average prices for drugs that were further analyzed in relation to number of generics and market share of generic drugs. The results of the analysis suggest that ‘generic paradox’ is not present on the market; the hospital market is more sensitive to the entry of generics.
