In order to conduct a comprehensive analysis our study primarily focuses on the major changes in the EU's institutions which took place after the Brexit and seeking for new opportunities for Spain to strengthen its political position. The research mainly focuses on the changes in the party and ideological structure of the European Parliament, as well as the increase of spanish influence on the voting procedure in the Council. This study also analyze the Brexit from the point of view of the postfunctionalism. It considers the Brexit as an example of how internal ideological conflict may influence foreign policy of a state. Moreover, the research focuses on the internal factors which prevent Spain from improving their political position as a EU member-state. Which includes considering the consequences of the Catalan crisis, which affected the image of the state in the world arena, as well as identifying the main reasons of the current political crisis.
