This study investigates the relationship between the gender composition of authors and the academic success of their articles in the leading Russian economic journal “Voprosy Ekonomiki”. This study is relevant because there is a small number of Russian works are devoted to the bibliometric analysis of gender differences. The object of the research is articles from the Russian journal "Voprosy Economiki" for the period 2003 - 2020, which investigates the influence of various factors on the popularity of articles, measured in views and citations. In OLS regression with views, the results were insignificant, and in OLS regression with citations, they were partially significant. The hypothesis that there is favoritism towards men was confirmed, at the same time, we did not find any confirmation in favor of the hypotheses about the influence of segregation of men and women in the fields of economic science and that higher requirements are imposed on female authors at the stage of selecting the article before publishing.
