In this study the author examines the problem of gender inequality in wages. The fact that men and women have children is the main factor of this phenomenon. It is supposed that gender differences in remuneration are connected with the negative influence of having a child on the labour supply of women, but this situation is not observed for men. In foreign studies, authors get different results. However, there is a small amount of domestic scientific work on this problem. The study is based on RLMS data using regression analysis in 3 approaches. The author uses the personal and professional characteristics of men and women, as well as their working conditions. The study revealed that the status of motherhood in Russian society is one of the reasons for gender discrimination.
