The countries of Western Europe and the United States (U.S.) have been allies since World War II, but their character has constantly changed, the relationship has faced periods of tension, and Donald Trump's accession to power in 2017 has added momentum to the changing relationship. But Trump's factor in the nature of these dynamics remains a contentious issue in many studies, whether he was the cause of the problems in the transatlantic relationship or was a catalyst for uncovering fundamental tensions that existed before him. Thus, the purpose of this study is to assess how the U.S.-EU relationship has changed during Donald Trump's presidency and what role he has played in changing it. The study also examines the main lines of cooperation, the blocks of disagreement between allies in the pre-Trump and Trump periods, U.S. interests through the prism of ideology, Trump and the Republican Party approaches to foreign policy and transatlantic relations, assesses the Trump factor in transatlantic relations, and analyzes the prospects for transatlantic relations. To achieve the goals of the study, official documents, texts of agreements, declarations of the parties, statements of political leaders in the media, and statements of European and American leaders on the level of relations were studied through content analysis. Thus, for the first time, a comprehensive assessment of the impact on the transatlantic relationship of the crises within the EU and the internal and external fundamental factors that served as shifts in the foreign policy of the United States, compared to the impact that the Trump factor had on this relationship.
