Nowadays, the issue of European security is quite burning. Due to the fact that Spain is viewed as a "bridge" to Europe, seems extremely crucial to analyze security policy measures carried out by Madrid, since safety of the entire Union depends on its stability. While certain aspects of the Spanish and the European security policies have been studied in depth, a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the Kingdom’s contribution in ensuring European security, as well as a comparison of their approaches are unveiled for the first time. Hence, the present study aims to determine the significance of Spain's efforts in providing border safety and stability of the established system in the European Union. In order to achieve the goal this work employs quantitative methods, among which seems crucial to highlight the empirical method and the secondary analysis of statistical data, and qualitative methods, such as comparative-historical method in addition to the content analysis. Thus, this paper will provide a better understanding of the measures outlined in the security strategies and might contribute to revealing the gaps in the security policies of Spain and the EU… and opportunities for their future advancement.
