Living With an Eating Disorder: Script for a Short Film

The number of people suffering from eating disorders (EDS) has increased in recent decades. The progression of EDS occurs under the influence of such social factors as family and parenting, personal characteristics, traumatic experience, media, cultural and social values. In the XXI century, fashion and the media industry, which translates social values, develop rapidly. Since media idealize and promote the image of a thin body, it has an expanding influence on people and leads to an increase in EDS cases. In addition to this problem, there is another one — the stigmatization of people who experienced this disease. Thus, my project, the script of a short feature film, is aimed to influence the current situation in society. My purpose is to highlight the severity of the EDS problem, awoke empathy for people suffering from EDS, and reduce the stigma against them. During my work, I delved into the topic of EDS, analyzed the impact of cinematography on society, studied theoretical materials about the principles of scriptwriting, and conducted practical work on the plot development, the formation of characters, and the development of the conflict.
