This study focuses on the challenges of production localization by international OEMs. The key question of our research is to identify the obstacles of OEM companies’ production localization in the CIS automotive industry. Using the theoretical basis of previous scientific articles and publications and our own analysis, characteristic problems were identified. Also, we develop possible solutions for international OEMs that face particular problems we stated. In our study, the production localization market is a region of the CIS countries. Using the case study of Volkswagen and Toyota, we enhance external validity, test our hypotheses and provide a reasonable basis for analytically generalizable findings. Moreover, the research suggests theoretically-based management recommendations for Volkswagen and Toyota.
