Today, many companies, regardless of the industry they operate in, fail in the global market and are forced to exit a particular market. However, some companies manage to maintain a leading position in both their domestic and foreign markets. The reasons for the failure of some and the success of others may be quite different. This research paper was written to understand what key strategies companies in the retail industry use. This work provides examples of growth strategies used by international retailers of different origins and sizes, including industry leaders Walmart and Costco. This paper looks at their operations in countries such as the United States, which is a domestic market for both companies, the United Kingdom and China.
