Gender Discrimination and Attitude to the Phenomenon of Sexual Harassment in the Workplace in Public Authorities

The research on gender discrimination and cases on sexual harassment in the workplace is not contemporary. Yet, it is underestimated and neglected by Russian public authorities where mentioned phenomena towards female employees is not only frequent but is not regulated by special legislation. The issue is international and has been widely investigated by numerous social approaches. Still there is a recognized gap in the literature with regard to effective solution of the problem. The present study explores recent attempts to put forward this agenda on the governmental level and eliminate longstanding stereotypes on female place in public administration. Through the framework of social studies, this paper consists of current theories on gender discrimination and sexual harassment, its possible practical application to the Russian public authorities’ environment and problems that might be seen throughout the incorporation of foreign practices.
