Student: Tumanova Anastasiya

Supervisor: Arseniy V. Meshcheryakov

Faculty: Faculty of Creative Industries

Educational Programme: Design (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2021

The goal of my graduation project is to make a game that teaches Japanese, which will be better and more useful for the player than the game Influence (Howland, 2014), which I chose as the main reference. To achieve my goal, I conducted a study to identify the advantages and disadvantages of some existing games dedicated to teaching Japanese, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of three popular Japanese language textbooks in Russia; I also studied the main methods of teaching foreign languages. I chose analysis and comparison as my research methods. As a result of the research, my game has changed quite a lot: if at first I concentrated only on learning new words, then after the research I added the study of the alphabet and the basics of grammar to the game. I came to the conclusion that it is necessary to abandon the focus on only one aspect of the language (for example, on memorizing new words) and the elements of the test, in order to increase the usefulness of the game for the player.
