The paper considers the phenomenon of cosmopolitanism in the contemporary world. Of interest are the origins of cosmopolitanism, its foundation, the concepts connected with it (multiculturalism, the idea of human rights) and, primarily, the attitude of contemporary political philosophers and researchers to cosmopolitanism itself. The aim of the work is to define modern cosmopolitanism and to make a detailed review of modern cosmopolitan and anti-cosmopolitan ideas. Thus, the first chapter provides an answer to the question "What is cosmopolitanism?"; the second chapter examines the positions of supporters of world citizenship; the third (final) chapter presents a critique of contemporary cosmopolitanism. After reading the work, an idea of the main positive and possible negative aspects of world citizenship should be formed.
