Nowadays, the environmental agenda has the greatest relevance, worrying not only the civil society but also the states. Having a great potential to fulfill the needs of citizens and to take part in the formation of state policy, environmental activism can be considered an important actor in the political field. Often, environmental movements are politicized at one stage of their development, but at what point this phenomenon occurs remains an open topic for discussion. In this thesis, the politicization of environmental activism is considered as the transformation of an initially non-political agenda into a political context. The theoretical part of the work examines the characteristics of politicization and its dependence on the political opportunity structure. The comparative analysis revealed that the process of politicization helps eco-activists to achieve their goals with a sufficiently high level of openness of the state and the availability of a number of political opportunities, which is the most favorable surroundings for politicization.
