Dependence of Football Players' Transfer Value on Statistical Indicators

This paper examines the impact of statistical indicators on the player`s transfer value based on the Spanish Top Football League (La Liga). The paper uses cross-sectional data on players who took part in the 2019/2020 season in La Liga. The database consists of 225 observations for 15 clubs of the Spanish championship. As explanatory variables we use the age of a player, the number of goals and assists per season, the number of player’s previous clubs, the cost of his previous transfer, his position, the place of the player's club in the previous season. Also, we include the indicators of the team diversity level and the national diversity level within a team in the model. After determining the range of variables, two model specifications are built. The first specification includes the national diversity indicator, the second one is built without it. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the team diversity level has a positive effect on the player`s transfer fee, and national diversity does not have a significant impact the transfer value of players.
