Choosing Texts for Reading with Regard to Students’ Age and Psychological Features: the Case of Teaching German to Beginners

The study is aimed at determining the selection criteria and didactic processing of additional texts for reading in the process of teaching a foreign language at the initial stage. To achieve this goal, the psychophysiological and age characteristics of students - representatives of the modern generation Z were studied. The analysis of priorities, wishes, interests of students in the selection of authentic texts was carried out by the method of questioning students. Criteria and methods of didactic processing of texts for reading have been determined in order to achieve the most profound and accessible perception and understanding of these texts. At the same time, recommendations were formulated for taking into account the psychophysiological and age characteristics of students, as well as the mechanisms of perception and understanding by them of incoming information when reading texts.
