Typology of St. Petersburg Districts According to Residents' Opinion of a Comfortable Urban Environment

Master Thesis «Typology of St. Petersburg Districts According to Residents' Opinion of a Comfortable Urban Environment» is aimed to study the urban environment and citizens' opinion on the quality of areas of their residences. The goal of the Thesis is to differentiate the urban spaces based on view of St. Petersburg residents on the quality of urban environment. In order to achieve the goal several steps were taken. These steps are studying the regulatory framework of the urban environment and existing approaches of urban environment’s interpretation and assessing its quality, determining the factors influencing the residents’ perception of the urban environment, preparing the questionnaire for the sociological survey, analyzing the results and identifying common and different features, clustering areas based on the different types of quality environment, as well as pointing out spatial patterns. The study includes the analysis of the methodology on conducting the sociological survey in the urban environment in the administrative districts of St. Petersburg. Also, within the framework of the study, the differentiation of areas by the quality of the environments was carried out using the method of regional syndromes-signs. The results are described and grouped. Therefore, after the differentiation of areas based on the types of urban environments the clusters are developed, studied and described depend on the distinguishing syndromes-signs. The analytical conclusions, development prospects, and, finally, the development horizon of this study are based on the presented results and cartographic materials.
