The aim of this study is to find the relationship between the ethnic homogeneity of Russian regions and the adaptation of foreign students in the respective regions. The relevance of the work was determined by the need for successful adaptation of the growing number of foreign students in Russian universities. The theoretical part of the work substantiates the hypothesis of the relationship between the ethnic homogeneity of regions and the adaptation of foreign students, and also considers the presence of ethnic conflicts and cases of xenophobia against foreign students as one of the indicators of ineffective adaptation. The practical part of the study compares the index of ethnic heterogeneity of the regions and the relative number of ethnic conflicts involving foreign students in the regions of Russia. The results do not confirm the original hypothesis, and therefore author made assumptions about the reasons of this failure. At the end of the paper, author proposed some options for further expansion of the study, taking into account the results pf this study.
