This study aims to demonstrate the peculiarities of the R. Monro’s book and author focuses during the book. This paper will consider the strong correlation of the Highland region features, Eastern Ross position among Highlands on the local people of the territories. The main focus of the study concentrates on loyalties formed by the institutions which determined the whole recruitment process and the further behavior of Scots during the period of the Thirty Years War. it will be shown, that Eastern parts of the territory were more integrated into Lowland societies and were pretty well controlled by the Scottish monarchy. The importance of the stabilization in the region, “Honor” and marital ethos, protestant etic will be discussed. R. Monroe source, in that case, will be considered not only as a book of mercenary memoirs, however, as a reflection towards all these transformations. Monro’s attitudes toward members of the Stewart family, kings of Denmark and Sweden, his profession, religion, Scots, clansmen will be discussed.
