Construction of New Image-Narrative Systems in Philosophy Tube's Video Essays

This work explores the phenomenon of “lefttube”, and the content, namely long format video essays, this community creates as a cultural form. It tries to define this community of creators and consumers, keeping in mind the fluidity of those roles in digital social space. The study of YouTube’s history and the transformation of video essay as a genre provides insights into how those roles can be understood. Drawing on the analysis of one example channel (PhilosophyTube), this work describes how this exact medium influences the discourse in the political field via methods of narrative construction.
