Political participation relations with media consumption have always been a prominent topic for researchers. Some scholars argue that consuming of political information both offline and online is beneficial for participation, others refute. This question is significant especially nowadays, as youth, who spends a lot of time consuming information through new media, is alienated from traditional political participation. This study addresses the problem of relationship between new media use and Russian adolescents’ participation in politics by adapting the O-S-O-R model. The online survey among Russian young adults aged from 18 to 25 years old confirms a positive correlation between media consumption and political participation, as well as political knowledge. In addition, the impact of political knowledge on online participation and external political efficacy on both online and offline participation is confirmed.
