Actualization of Classical Drama as Interpreted by Director Dmitry Krymov

Student: Gileva Arina

Supervisor: Elena Penskaja

Faculty: Faculty of Humanities

Educational Programme: Philology (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2021

The material of my research is two performances by Dmitry Krymov, " O-th.Late Love" and "Bezpridannitsa", based on two plays by Ostrovsky, "Late Love" and" Bespridannitsa", respectively. The purpose of this thesis is a comprehensive analysis of these performances. The results of the analysis of Krymov's performances can, first, serve as another example of the modern interpretation of the classical dramatic texts of Russian literature and, accordingly, offer a new paradigm of interpretation of the eternal problematic topics and issues that are covered by both the playwright in his plays and the director in his performances. Secondly, the analysis will determine the role and influence of these interpretations on the historical stage tradition of the production of these texts. The research can be useful for historians of culture, theater and literature, who can use it to form their own view of Krymov's performances.
