"Second Best" Construction in the Languages of Eurasia

This work is devoted to the study of the construction of the type "second best" and its particular cases (as next best) in the languages ​​of Eurasia. The study of this construction began in [Usmanova 2020], where the main material of the study was data from European languages. In this work, the sample of languages ​​has been expanded. The aim of the research is to study the areal-typological prevalence of the construction in European and Asian languages. The main task of the work is to search for languages ​​in which constructions equivalent to the studied one exist. The methodology consists primarily of the study of the grammars of languages. The main source for the analysis of the "second best" constructions is the results of a survey of native speakers, which was conducted in the form of messages exchange on several social platforms. In accordance with the grammar of the found phrases, the patterns of the use of their constituents are described: words with ordinal meaning and superlatives. The results of the work are a discussion of the languages ​​where the construction was found, and a comparison of the languages ​​in which the studied construction exists. It is also discussed how constructions are formed and change among languages.
