1980s American Horror as Kinotext: Deconstruction of the Tradition

Year of Graduation: 2021

The paper is devoted to one of the least researched themes of American cinema - horror films of the 1980s. Most of the existing genre studies usually identify either the most significant films for the genre or the genre as a whole, but even in such cases the 1980s are hardly mentioned. Many researchers call this time the beginning of the decoy of the genre. The purpose of this work is to prove that in the 1980s a phenomenon of deconstruction of traditional American horror emerged, in which familiar narratives and plots changed; as well as to reveal by what characteristics films can be included in this phenomenon. The relevance of this work, in addition to the study of lesser known films, is to raise the issue of defining discourse not only as a text, but also as a kinotext.
