This work is devoted to the topical theme of the desacralization of death, which is taking place in the modern world under the conditions of commodification of all spheres of human life and market economy. Since it is currently impossible to obtain empirical information about nonphysical transformations of a person after death, it is important to reveal how people form their idea of death, as well as how they rationalize it and are ready to use certain practices of death or norms of dying in relation to their own death. Thus, the aim of this work is to study the specifics of people's perception of the topic of death and the topic of their own death inclusively, as well as to identify the main ideas and motivations used by people in forming ideas about death and the conditions of its rationalization. In the first chapter, an analysis of the relevant literature on related topics was carried out, on the basis of the main concepts of which the assumptions of this study were further formulated, and a deeper understanding of the topic and the current state of this direction of sociology was obtained. The second chapter describes the methodology of this study: the description of the sample and the rationale for the choice of research strategy and the specific method of data collection, as well as the tools. The third chapter directly analyzes the information obtained in order to fulfill the set tasks, as well as to verify the assumptions made. The results of this study can be of interest to scholars and students engaged in research in the field of sociology of death. In addition, this work can help to better understand the peculiarities of people's perception of death. The results of the analysis can serve as a theoretical basis for further deepening the topic and conducting quantitative research on related topics.
