Strategies for Additional Preparation for the Unified State Exam for Russian Students and Their Parents

The paper examines strategies for additional preparation for the USE by households living in different settlements of the Russian Federation. The study is a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with graduates in 2017-2020 and with those taking the USE in 2021, living in villages and cities with different populations. The results describe the differences in parent and child perceptions of the USE, the established strategies for preparing for the final exam, the trajectories for forming such strategies, and the reasons for the irrational behavior of passers in the context of the choice of USE subjects and methods of preparation for them. The study also describes the transformation of preparation strategies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
