Heritage plays an important role in the accumulation, preservation, and development of the memory of our past. We preserve our past in the present in order to pass it on to the future. There are different levels of agents involved in this process - official institutions, the expert community, and users, which include the local community. This paper focuses on the study of the heritage that has value for the inhabitants - the vernacular heritage. The study of vernacular heritage was conducted through the search for narratives of heritage in the collective memory of the Solovetsky settlement residents. The main method of research is qualitative methods, namely in-depth interviews. A space with a high concentration of heritage objects — the settlement of Solovetsky — was chosen as a case study. This work is intended to expand the understanding of the role of residents in the process of creation and preservation of heritage.
