THE POLITICAL COMPONENT IN the CONTEXT of CONTEMPORARY ARABIC HIP-HOP CULTURE

This paper aims to analyze the Hip-Hop discourse during the so-called Arab Spring. The focus was on music texts, slogans and Graffiti. I explored the visual and non-visual elements of the Hip, and what’s called the political component in the Hip-Hop discourse. All of that is being discussed in the framework of the 25th January revolution that occurred in Egypt in 2011. This revolution aimed at overthrowing the long-lasting political regime that ruled the country for almost 30 years. Hip-Hop as an artistic behavior has played a significant part in representing the revolution by utilizing its text and Graffiti paintings. This mentioned revolution has served a fertile soil to the Hip-Hop music as well. In fact, youth have been able to embody their voice and demands in this kind of music.
