Nowadays, physical activity is a trait that is not common to everyone. In Russia, many people do not devote enough time to sport, which leads to many health problems and indirectly to a decline in the country's economic potential. It is necessary to understand which determinants have an impact on the level of physical activity to be able to solve the problem. Econometric analysis tools were used to identify these interdependencies. The database was required to be large, with the possibility of using temporal analysis and the availability of a wide range of potential determinants to subsequently investigate variety of characteristics, so the results of the RLMS surveys of individuals were used. The ability to fully engage in sports is greatly influenced by the income of the individual and the type of community of residence. This result indicates the need for a competent state policy in the sphere of physical education and sports. Of course, raising public awareness about the benefits and importance of sports is an appropriate measure. However, it is necessary not only to promote a healthy lifestyle on a national scale, but also to pay increased attention to the development of sports infrastructure in small communities, to open more municipal sports sections. Also, sports policy should take into account the current state of health and medicine. The results of the study showed a significant impact of the health of individuals on the practice of sports. It is necessary to improve the general health of the population, increase the availability of medical services and ensure their timeliness in order to give people more opportunities to participate in sports.
